Things You Should Know About the Carnivore Diet

Carnivore diet is a new trend in the world of health and dieting. It’s a diet that revolves around eliminating everything from your diet that doesn’t come from animals. Carbohydrates, fruits, and vegetables have no place in a Carnivore diet. Zero percent of what you eat can consist of these things.

Before becoming dedicated to this new diet, just know that its health effects and safety haven’t been proven yet. It’s relatively new so there aren’t enough studies about it.

Effects of a Carnivore Diet

Eating a diet consisting solely of protein and animal fat can seem strange and unhealthy, but people who have gone on a Carnivore diet for a short period of time have noticed an improvement in various aspects of their health.

When it comes to subjective parameters, those who went on a Carnivore diet say they felt less bloated and fewer cravings as opposed to when they’re not dieting. Weight loss is also present with a carnivore diet. This makes sense because there are no carbs involved.

There are a few objective parameters that prove some health effects as well. Inflammation markers showed some mild decrease, but this could be due to individual variation and associated exercise.

One major concern that comes to mind when following a diet based on animal meat and fat is the serum level of lipids. Consumption of animal fat is strongly linked with the elevation of bad types of cholesterol. Surprisingly, however, people on Carnivore diets had low bad cholesterol levels.

Once again, these effects are only present in a few people and haven’t been tested in the long run. It’s hard to judge the safety of a Carnivore diet based on only 2-3 weeks of dieting. There’s also the role of individual variation like with inflammation markers.

Furthermore, people don’t tend to maintain the Carnivore diet for long. They find it hard to keep eating the same kind of food over and over for extended periods of time.

Animal Meat and Fat

This is one of the simplest diets to follow because you have little wiggle room. On a Carnivore diet, you’ll mainly be eating meat. Fish is included and allowed. There’s good news for people who love dairy products because milk and cheese are permitted as well. Finally, animal fats aren’t just allowed, they’re actually encouraged.

Carnivore Diet vs Ketogenic Diet

Keto diet has been around for a few years while the Carnivore diet is a new trend, so how do they compare? The truth is that the Ketogenic diet is believed to superior to the Carnivore diet. While on a Keto diet, carbs will be restricted but not completely eliminated.

The Keto diet will also allow you to eat some fruits and vegetables. Fruits and veggies, as health experts can’t stress this enough, are vital to our lives as they provide us with fibers and important minerals and nutrients. The Keto diet has also been around for a much longer time, meaning that its implications have been studied by the medical community.

The Carnivore diet shows some promise, but it’s still too soon to determine whether or not it’s a feasible option for weight loss. Until then, there are better options available.
